Hello, after several issues the site is back up. We can only look forward.
For my capstone project, I’ll be making a short visual novel-style game with the use of Ren’Py and Python, using Live2D for an expressive, animated model.
Win of the Week: A Cute Design
Last weekend I got started on the design of the model. Initially at a loss, I reached out to a friend for some suggestions. She suggested something cutesy and ‘princess-like’, which isn’t really my style but I’m always open to new things. Through designing the character, I was able to come up with a simple theme for the game; a bakery.
It’s nothing complicated, but it’s a solid, fun aesthetic to bring to the game. The design I landed on was a good balance between complex elements and simplicity, with the biggest challenge being the hat for sure. I might end up simplifying that, but I’d like to do my best to get it to work.

The feedback I received was very helpful, too. Removing the pattern, simplifying the checkered collar, and potentially adding an apron to bring in more baker elements. They’re all great ideas I intend to use.
Since this kind of cutesy thing isn’t usually my thin, I’d consider it a great win that I made something this adorable.
Key Learning
I looked a tiny bit into how a model should be cut up and tried to keep that in mind, in addition to expanding my visual library with all these new design elements. But most of my learning is yet to come once I get into the thick of Live2D and python.
Next week, I’m going to finish this model, at least for the most part, while exploring more of Live2D passively to ensure I cut it up in a way that works well. for now, ig satisfaction and stress are 8 and 2
